The areas represented are Downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, the confluence of the Minnesota and the Mississippi Rivers, Kelly and my home, the original NSP Power Plant, and downtown St. Paul. This sculpture won 1st prize in the sculpture category of the Minnesota State Fair's 91st Annual Fine Arts Exhibition. In a full page review of the show, Minneapolis Star Tribune art critic Doug Hanson wrote, "Notable works include Jon Martin Hicks' six overhead views of the Mississippi River valley. They are cut from red plastic and illuminated from below to reveal fascinating altitude relief lines". |
